Dr Claire Ellis is the Director, Infrastructure and Industry Development, Tourism Tasmania. A key focus of Claire’s Unit is the facilitation of the Tasmanian tourism industry’s shift into the digital environment.
Claire grew up in Tasmania, but also spent 14 years living and working overseas, mostly in Indonesia, Vietnam, China, USA, and within Australia in Perth, Darwin and Canberra as well as Tasmania.
During this time Claire started and ran her own tourism businesses but also spent nearly three years working for the Indonesian office of the World Wide Fund for Nature, worked as a lecturer and consultant mostly in tourism and wrote two non-fiction books as well as numerous magazine articles.
Claire subsequently worked at the University of Tasmania lecturing in the Tourism Program, completing a PhD examining an area within volunteer tourism, before joining Tourism Tasmania.
