Los Angeles Burns But Life Goes On At Caffe Primo

By Martin Kelly, Editor, Travel Trends

“Hot enough for you?” asks the maitre d’ at Caffe Primo on Sunset Strip, West Hollywood, as oven warm wind dries the sweat on the beautiful bodies of the cool people that make this place their second home. A fire engine and ambulance scream past.

The city and suburban sprawl to the east is covered in a smoky haze, yellow on the fringes. “How long’s the weather been like this,” I ask. “Three months at least,” he replies.

There’s less than two weeks until the official start of winter and the temperature is easy 30+. Hundreds of homes in the area have been destroyed in a series of fires. But life goes on in West Hollywood – lattes are drunk, deals made, and salads ordered. Caffe Primo is the place to be. Travel Trends: November 18, 2008
