Grounded Aircraft Hit Global Distribution Systems

GLOBAL air capacity is beginning to shrink with a negative impact for businesses that depend on a vibrant airline industry. Witness the latest results for Travelport GDS, which distributes airfares to the travel industry. The number of airfare segments it sold during the September quarter fell 10%, and are down 9% for the year to date. CEO Jeff Clarke said the slump was expected and that the company had been cutting costs to compensate. Clarke did not make any comment on the present or future operating environment.
