Qantas United States Sales Up, Prices, Yield Down

Like a real life game show, further evidence is emerging that consumers will spend on travel – provided The Price Is Right. Qantas reports booming airfare sales to US consumers thanks to heavy discounting and the appeal of a favourable exchange rate (the greenback is now buying around A$1.57).

Recent Qantas US ticket sales are up 160% over 2008 thanks to fares starting at US$380 per sector between LA and Sydney. Qantas US boss Wally Mariani told the Daily Telegraph: “Everyone knows the American market is very soft at the moment … and we weren’t hoping anywhere near this result but it was above our wildest dreams. Australia is still a very popular destination for Americans.”
