Qantas Warns Hoteliers of Inbound Slump

QANTAS has advised Australia’s major hotel groups in a confidential briefing that it expects all major inbound markets except NZ (+4%) to decline this year. No surprise that Japan (-30%) is by far the worst, followed by China (-22%) and Singapore (-20%). Other predictions include USA (-5%), UK (-3%), India (-9%), Hong Kong (-8%), and Germany (-3%). Outbound is also a little shaky with the US and Pacific routes hurting most. Meanwhile, Qantas yesterday said its revenue seat factor fell to 78.4% in February, down from 80.6% last year. Travel Trends: April 1, 2009
