Travel Brands Cheap, Emirates Returns to Future

NOT a single travel company has made the Top 100 Most Valuable Global Brands 2009 survey from Millward Brown. Travel is cheap and getting cheaper. Information Technology is where you find money and mojo. Google #1 (brand value US$100bn), Microsoft #2 (US$76bn), IBM #4 (US$66bn) all finished in the Top 5. So that’s what became of those nerdy kids at the back of class.

EVERYTHING old is new again at Emirates which has hiked the commission it’s paying travel agents from 7% to 9% for the month of May. The smart money thinks it will stay there and won’t be long until some other airlines match. At a time of dwindling demand old-school distribution channels – any distribution channel, for that matter - is looking pretty damn attractive.Travel Trends: May 4, 2009
