Six Million Aussies Head Overseas in Past Year

Australian passportDomestic tourism has been left in the dust as Australians took a record six million overseas trips in the 12 months to the end of September. Low airfares and rising dollar were cited as compelling factors by the Reserve Bank, which said overseas departures by Australians had increased 17% since January. The Aussie dollar has appreciated 31% against the US dollar since March and some economists are forecasting parity by the end of January. These latest figures consolidate what now looks to be a long-term trend.
