Yahoo!7 is buying totaltravel.com, Australia's most popular destination conent website,  for what the Australian Financial Review claims is $20m. Totaltravel.com has 167,000 paid listings - the classic directory model – and display advertising. It has been a serious publishing player for some time now, a regular fixture in the Hitwise travel top ten. Based in Byron Bay, the company has at least 40 employees, the fate of whom wasn't covered in the Yahoo!7 release, which was short on details. The deal gives Yahoo!7 strong positioning in the lucrative travel travel market and follows the acquisition of a stake in Wego.com by News Digital Media. Yahoo!7 CEO Rohan Lund said Yahoo!7 will combine its exisiting travel offering with totaltravel.com's "quality listings data" in "contextually relevant places" across its network. That would be in addition to revenue generated by the site itself. No indication yet of what's happening there. More on that later this week.
