Money Worries Melt When Snow Falls

Thredbo - Powder Bowl

SKIER numbers have been surprisingly strong in the Australian Alps this year thanks to healthy snowfalls. Thredbo recorded its biggest-ever Thursday and Friday last week while visitor numbers at nearby Perisher have also been good. It means Australian ski resorts are on target to breach the two million skier mark for only the seventh time – provided the winter storms keep on coming. It shows that if people feel strongly about the experience – especially one that is never guaranteed – they will pay for it. A quick glance at Wotif.com reveals demand is solid through to early September with lots of ‘sold’ signs and peak season pricing from those with space.
