Tourism numbers to Antarctica, for long on a steep growth curve, have fallen dramatically and are projected to slump a further 23% in the next 12 months, according to the International Association of Antarctic Tour Operators. IAATO Chief Steve Wellmeier told the Hobart Mercury 46,000 people visited Antarctica three years ago. “That is down to 34,000 for the season just ended.
