Wotif.com has reported an 8% profit fall in the six months to December 31, 2010, over the previous corresponding period. The profit slump, well flagged, to $25.31 million, was caused by a combination of factors including a 4.8% drop in room night sales to 3.554 million and increased marketing costs. Asian room nights were hardest hit, down 11.8%, over the same period in 2009, however appeared to be recovering. CEO Robbie Cooke says “whilst it is still too early to extrapolate, over the last 10 days we have seen forward booking levels (not check-ins) return to low double- digit growth. We have seen similar trends on our lastminute.com.au site.”
