New report out from Amadeus and Oxford Economics – The Travel Goldrush 2020 – has identified these key trends:
- Global tourist arrivals fell to 880m in 2009 from 920m in 2008, according to the United Nations World Travel Organisation.
- Arrivals are growing again – up 5.6% so far in 2010 – but Europe remains sluggish.
- Aviation industry is forecast to return to profit in 2010 but 0.5% net profit margin raises questions over industry viability.
- Asian residents will account for 32% of global travel spending by 2020 (now 21%).
