logo - Lonely PlanetBBC Worldwide has sold iconic but struggling travel publisher Lonely Planet to US company NC2 media for £51.2m, about £80m less than it paid. NC2Media says it is “primarily engaged in the creation, acquisition, and distribution of quality digital content …  the transition from linear to nonlinear entertainment and news; and the merger of traditional print.” The acquisition is left-field but could be a good fit, certainly better than the BBC, a big bureaucracy battling with its own new media issues.
