In his role, Abbott is responsible for the operation of all Starwood properties in South East Asia (currently 21 hotels and resorts) and leads the development of Starwood’s brands in this rapidly expanding region.
Abbott started his career with Starwood in 1979 and has since then held various management positions across the United States of America, Korea, China and Malaysia.
Prior to this current appointment, Abbott was the Vice President of Operations for the 4067-rooms Sheraton Macao Hotel and 439-rooms & 307-residences St Regis Hotel, Macao.
Holder of a Bachelor of Science in Hotel Restaurant Management from Michigan State University, Abbott’s background also includes extensive managerial exposure to both front and back of house operations in various types of hotels (business, group, convention & resort) in North America and Asia Pacific.
He also played key roles in several hotel pre-openings.
In addition to his hotel responsibilities, Abbott was also very active in the communities he lived in. He is often affiliated to many local organizations such as the Guam Hotel & Restaurant Association, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Guam, Work Force Investment Act and many more.
As a result of this, Abbott was recognized as one of the Top Ten figures in China hospitality industry in 2003 and as one of the influential community leaders in Pudong New Development Area in 2007.
