Expedia is already a massive, complicated online travel company that is not quite the sum of all its parts – Expedia, TripAdvisor, Hotels.com, eLong, Hotwire etc- with recent financial performance that has left investors wanting more. Now it has become an even more complex beast with the announcement of a new joint venture company with low cost carrier AirAsia.

The JV will operate Expedia branded businesses in Japan, India, Southeast Asia and East Asia markets in addition to AirAsia’s AirAsiaGo and GoRooms businesses.  “The new venture will have the exclusive online third-party distribution rights in the region for AirAsia and AirAsiaX flights and travel packages meaning that with few exceptions in the region the only place to find and book AirAsia flights online will be AirAsia.com, AirAsiaGo.com and Expedia,” the partners said.
