Expedia reports a 25% increase in week on week searches by Americans for Australian hotels following the US screening of the Oprah Australia episodes. There was an even bigger spike (163%) in package holiday searches. Expedia said the figures confirmed recent local industry views that the ‘Oprah halo’ indeed taken effect on driving inbound travel from the US market. Feb 2 update… Expedia has confirmed an even more impressive 40% rise in Australian bookings from the US. Seems the Tourism Australia strategy to bring Oprah ‘Down Under’ is paying off.
