The founder of GoIndonesia, Yusuf Ijsseldijk, has described the collapse of Gonla as a “wake-up call for the Indonesian online travel industry. Sure, it’s booming, growth rates are staggering, but just copying ‘proven business models’ from elsewhere is not good enough and money doesn’t buy the market,” he wrote in a comment on Tnooz. “It certainly shows that money is not enough to succeed in the Indonesian e-commerce market.

“Bad experiences like these will have a drawback for the emerging Indonesian e-commerce industry in general, as building trust is one of the main challenges the industry is dealing with and the way Gonla closed shop is an absolute disgrace.”
