Who said ‘Flash Sales’ are dead? Secret Escapes, which sells heavily discounted luxury travel, has just raised USD60m from the likes of Google Ventures to fund global domination.
Or at least expansion from Europe into the US and Asia.
Based in London and founded four years ago, Secret Escapes says it has sold nearly two million room nights and grown membership to from 4m to 19m since last January.
This C Series funding round was led by Google Ventures and Octopus Investments, with participation from existing investors Index Ventures and Atlas Venture.
The deal demonstrates that flash sales are evolving and have a strong future after a rocky start that put many – hoteliers in particular – off side.
