Elizabeth Gaines resigned this morning as CEO of travel retailer Helloworld after just over a year in the top job but will stay in the role for the next six months or until the HLO Board appoints a successor.

Ms Gaines, then Helloworld’s long-term CFO, was promoted to the leadership role on March 28 last year after her divisive predecessor Rob Gurney suddenly left in the midst of a tumultuous company re-brand, the ramifications of which are still playing out.

In her resignation press release, Ms Gaines claimed that “Helloworld is now a business significantly transformed” and with the company “firmly entrenched as a significant force… I have now decided it is now is the appropriate time for a change in leadership”.
