Curious. New Tourism Research Australia study claims that a greater proportion of international visitors use the web to book Australian travel than domestic travellers – 42% (2.3m) compared with 27% (18.3m). Flights were the biggest purchase by international visitors with 79% of overseas web surfers booking their inbound flights online. “For domestic travellers, the most common online booking was accommodation (65%), while around half (48%) booked flights online.”
The most prolific international online bookers were the Malaysians (59%), New Zealanders (56%) and French (55%). The growth markets of India (20%) and China (13%) were down the list but still pretty high when you consider that many view them as traditional wholesale markets. This data was sourced from TRA’s International Visitor Survey and National Visitor Survey.
