Kayak, the travel comparison site, has been bought by the Priceline Group for $US1.8bn in a deal no-one saw coming. It joins brands like Booking.com, Agoda.com and Rentalcars.com in the Priceline stable. Priceline CEO Jeffrey Boyd indicated that Kayak’s largely untapped potential for global growth was a major hook.  At present no brand owns this space.  Kayak, founded eight years ago by Steve Hafner and Paul English, currently “processes” more than 100 million user queries each month.
