A fresh iteration of the last minute hotel discount app has hit the market. Unlike sector pioneers such as Hotel Tonight and Hotel Quickly, which make their inventory available to all users, Late Rate App has been developed by Pushtech and geo-targets hotel offers so that only subscribed consumers within a set area are notified of the deal. The idea is to focus the the discount channel and protect rate integrity, says project collaborator Stephen West, who is also EGM at Turtle Beach Resort on the Gold Coast.

“We were looking for a product where we could release the best price possible direct to a customer but also have the ability to say target consumers within easy reach of our property, and then when we received enough room nights, simply cancel the offer,” Mr West said.

“It is important that we diversify in our marketing without affecting existing business. The beauty of this product is we choose where we send the message. If it is a room for today, it would be silly to advertise to Sydney, 1000km away.”

The app, which is available on both iOS and Andriod platforms, uses mobile tower technology to distribute and geographically segment the offers.
