Travel search engine Rome2rio has declared that live bookings are its future after announcing connections with three major European coach and rail operators. Consumers can this week book National Express, Renfre and Trenitalia services directly through Rome2rio, which had previously directed users to their sites.
Rome2rio also offers bookings for United Kingdom trains (through SilverRail, in which Expedia recently bought a majority stake) and executive chairman Rod Cuthbert says this latest “announcement sends a strong signal that we intend to be a market leader in ground transportation bookings globally”.
CEO Michael Cameron hailed the move as a “a milestone for Rome2rio as we continue to layer booking capability for train, bus and ferry operators on top of our unique search engine and growing user base.
“By 2018, Rome2rio’s booking coverage will be more global and comprehensive than our most respected competitors: Loco2, The Trainline and GoEuro.”
