Michael Richardson, Spotify, 206x298As Head of Business Development for Australia and New Zealand, Michael heads up all aspects of commercial partnerships for the Spotify service and software across the region.

Starting his career at Virgin Records in promotions and marketing over a six-year period, he then moved to the marketing team of Virgin’s parent company, EMI, as product manager during a significant rebuilding of their Australian arm.

In 2001 Michael relocated to London and worked at BMG as UK marketing manager, developing key brand partnerships for several artists and working with the direct marketing team to develop and implement digital customer acquisition and marketing strategies.

Returning to Australia in 2003, Michael joined Universal Music as Marketing Manager for international & domestic artists, shortly being promoted to Director of Marketing for Australian Artists.

Michael left UMA in 2008 to manage the ANZ operations for Omnifone, a global leader in the subscription music sector. In partnership with Vodafone he managed the launch of the first mobile music subscription service in the region.

Four years later, Michael joined Spotify, bringing over fifteen years of major label and digital music experience to locally launch the world’s biggest and most successful music streaming service of its kind.

Spotify launched in Australia & New Zealand at the end of May 2012 and has already cemented itself as the most exciting new digital music offering in the market.

A life long music fan Michael’s other passions in life include surfing, the mighty Sydney Swans, and being a doting dad to his children Levi (5) and Liliana (3).
