We all know tourism marketing is a form of propaganda but I believe Destination NSW boss Sandra Chipchase has lost the plot with her outrageous censorship of the Reportage Photography Festival. Destination NSW ordered that photographs and videos of bush fires, cyclones and war be (bad things) pulled from the exhibition, part of Vivid Sydney. The move caused a storm of protest.
But a self-righteous Ms Chipchase said it was made to protects children and families. That old excuse, familiar to totalitarian regimes everywhere. But it got me thinking – why stop there? Let’s sensor the weather broadcasts, make it a jailable offence for anyone to speak ill of the state. The options are endless. Over to you Ms Chipchase. See more coverage.
