Airbnb Australia says pet friendly listings are the most searched for amenity, while there’s been a surge in popularity for back to nature accommodation experiences.
People are also tending to stay longer and book later than they did pre-COVID, says Airbnb country manager Susan Wheeldon.
“Unique listings – such as tree houses, cabins, miniature homes and farm stays – are all highly sought after and our most wish listed homes tend to be those that are designed for relaxing and unwinding, with everything from panoramic views to outdoor baths,” says Wheeldon.
“Interest in longer-term stays has definitely grown during the pandemic – the share of longer-term stay searches in August this year was almost double what it was in 2019 and with many offices closed, the notion of working from home has become working from any home on Airbnb.
“Australians are also being more spontaneous with their booking habits, with a big rise in people booking last minute.
Interestingly, we’re bringing our furry friends along for the journey too, with pet-friendly listings the most searched for amenity, followed by a pool, fully-equipped kitchen, wireless internet and spa.
“Additionally, in the last two weeks of August there was a 23% increase in Australian home searches with at least one child.”
