Good times for the Aussie tourism industry with continued growth on all fronts. Inbound (see chart above) has been particularly strong while outbound continues solid growth from a significantly higher base.
South Koreans (+29.6) , Americans (23.6%) and Japanese (19.6%) tourists led the inbound charge during August, according to the latest ABS stats, which showed overall visits were up 11.7% to 696,7000 over last year.
China continued to grow strongly at 14.1%, but off a much larger base, reaching 93,600 tourists during the month, Malaysia also had strong momentum.
Indeed, apart from the New Zealand and the UK, all top ten markets recorded double digit growth.
No such consistency with the outbound travel market, dominated by two standout performers amid general flatness: #1 destination Indonesia (Bali) continued its incredible recent growth with a 19.7% increase while Canada jumped into the top 10 with a 22% burst.
Worth noting is the -6.5% drop in visits to the UK, the #4 market, and the continued pallor of Thailand, which was off by -2.1%.
