Australian restaurant booking technology company, AS Digital, has been bought by Priceline Group, which aims to own online dining bookings in the same way it dominates hotel reservations through its online travel agents Booking.com and Agoda.
AS Digital, based in Melbourne, will be absorbed into OpenTable, bought by Priceline last year.
The goal is “to accelerate OpenTable’s entry into the Australian market and expand its operations in Japan and across the Asia Pacific region,” the company said.
The main product of AS Digital is ResPAK, table reservation and management software with 2500 customers in more than 40 countries.
“In addition, AS Digital powers mobile apps, widgets and websites under the brand bookarestaurant.com that help consumers find and book restaurants all over the world.”
“AS Digital is a pioneer in B2B software solutions for the restaurant industry, building a highly competitive brand in one of the fastest growing markets,” said Darren Huston, President and CEO of The Priceline Group.
“This move extends the Group’s initiatives in digital and mobile commerce and accelerates our international efforts in online dining as we continue to scale this business.”
