MORE than 10,000 people a day have been signing up to the Qantas Frequent Flyer scheme since its alliance with retailing giant Woolworths was announced in late June. Under the partnership, Woolworths Everyday Rewards members who link their account to a Qantas Frequent Flyer membership can earn one frequent flyer point for every dollar they spend over $30 at Woolworths and Big W. Caltex, BWS and Dick Smith will join the scheme soon.
It’s an astonishing result, well ahead of expectations and takes the total Qantas FF membership to more than six million, on track to breach the targeted seven million by the end of next year. The alliance has proved a strategically savvy move for both parties (Woolworth has also gained 500,000 new members) and must surely pave the way for a similar alliance between Virgin Blue and Coles. Watch this space. Update 9/12/09: new members now at 700,000.
