Qantas and Japan Airlines Pump $120m Into Jetstar Japan

Jetstar-Japan-tail and logoJetstar Japan will use an equity injection of AUD120 million from its two main shareholders, Qantas Group and Japan Airlines, to accelerate growth. Launched in July 2012, Jetstar Japan has carried almost 3m passengers since take-off and is now the largest low cost carrier in Japan with 18 aircraft and nine destinations. It plans to grow its fleet 24 aircraft.

Japan has been slow to adopt the low cost carrier model but a report earlier this week from Amadeus said “the heavily developed Tokyo market saw a significant increase in LCC seat capacity (in the year to June 30), which suggests the traditional focus on full service, could be changing.”
