Qantas and Japan Airlines have boosted their investment in Jetstar Japan ahead of its international debut early next year. The carriers are making a combined equity injection of ¥11 billion (AUD114m), increasing their respective stakes to 47.1%.
Jetstar Japan started in 2012 and is operating a fleet of 19 A320 aircraft to 11 domestic destinations. It has carried more than 6m passengers and is tracking in line or ahead of expectations with yields up 9% year on year.
Meanwhile, Qantas today announced it will launch daily flights between Australia and Haneda, 30 minutes from Tokyo, next August. It hasn’t yet nominated an outbound port (or ports).
