Mobile has been a long time coming, maybe it has finally arrived. Google reports in a blog post that “19% of all hotel queries (are) conducted on mobile devices” while Scott Durchslag, President of Expedia.com recently revealed “70% of people searching on a phone are looking for a single room, for a single person for a single night that same day.” There’ll be a session on mobile and apps at TRAVELtech 2011. Meanwhile, the evolution of aircraft as a point of sale gains pace with Jetstar CEO Bruce Buchanan saying that 20% of the airline’s income now comes from ancillary charges – up to $24 a ticket. Buchanan was discussing Jetstar’s new, streamlined fare structure that starts with a seat and 10kg of luggage. From there, and for a price, the sky is the limit.
