It’s always easier to cut than create – especially now – but hard to follow the logic of stretching friendships in such a fragile era… Thai Airways, one of South East Asia’s biggest airlines is reducing its base travel agent commission for international airfares from 7% to 5% on January 1. Meanwhile, Flight Centre and Singapore Airlines remain estranged over commission. This trend has surprised me. I initially thought the opposite would occur, that the industry would work more closely together. Strategically I still believe now is the time to be nurturing every worthwhile relationship because sure as hell when times get better people will remember who stood by them when times were tough. Then again we’re talking about airlines here.
