SPECTACULAR growth from TripAdvisor drove a 40% increase in advertising and media revenue for parent company Expedia Inc during the third quarter. In the three months to September 30, third party revenue at TripAdvisor grew 59% year on year. Total TripAdvisor revenue rose 44%, from $97m in Q3 2009 to $139m in Q3 2010. Advertising and media – at 12% – is now the second-biggest revenue contributor to Expedia Inc. Hotels (66%) dominate while air is at 10%.
This year has been massive for TripAdvisor, which Expedia says “became the first ever travel brand to reach 40m unique monthly visitors to its site in a single month (July) and has also seen a 60% increase in the number of unique monthly visitors since the beginning of 2010”.
