Well-known Australian adventure travel company World Expeditions Travel Group has bolstered its presence in the growing UK walking tourism market with the purchase of leading operator Sherpa Van.
Sherpa Van’s main business picking up a walker’s baggage in the morning and delivering it to their next stop, servicing all major British walks, which are getting busier each year.
But it also plans itineraries and books accommodation for walkers and also cyclists – both increasingly popular past-times, particularly for mature travellers.
The company moves up to 9000 bags a month during peak periods on the most popular route alone, the 300km Coast To Coast Trek.
World Expeditions CEO, Sue Badyari, said buying Sherpa Van “is about creating vertical integration within our UK operations while increasing our footprint in an area of the world where we are passionate about operating walking tours.”
