Saw a story this morning in Tnooz that Booking.com is thrashing Expedia (and every other online travel agent) in Europe. Soon after, I found out one reason why.
Searching on Google Maps for Lochgilphead, a village in Scotland a colleague has moved to, I discovered it is a few streets in the middle of nowhere.
I also discovered a lone Booking.com ad for accommodation in the village.
That’s commitment. No other OTA was there. Not big enough for them perhaps.
But a booking is a booking and the last one in Lochgilphead had been made seven hours before.
It’s the little things that count, especially in Europe – a continent of villages and local, non-chain businesses.
